Curious if anyone knows who designed this series? I have not been able to locate a patent through Google Patent database…
The Great Western Type Foundry was the Omaha (Nebraska) branch of Barnhart Brothers & Spinder.
The BBS catalog of 1893-1894 displayed a “patent pending” notice; subsequent editions only labeled it as “original.” I maintain a complete list of BBS-assigned design patents, and all are identified by tradename. Cable is not among them.
Unfortunately, the designer is not attributed in the literature. Dan X. Solo revived it in 2005.
