Caslon, H.W. Caslon 1884The face that the Caslon TF called Caslon! Nicolete Gray cites it in the Caslon Circular of 1884.¹

Thomas W. Smith, who acquired H.W. Caslon & Co. in 1873,¹ was issued a US design patent for this dual-case font in February–April 1885 [USPTO D16032]. As customary for Inventors of Record, the affidavit claims that he “invented and produced” the design, meaning that it was originated by an employee or freelancer.

Star THP Partner Robert Donona has started work on a revival of this curly latin beauty.
