Fanchon. The designer of this face introduced by Barnhart Brothers & Spindler (Chicago) is not attributed in the literature.
A specimen shown in BBS 1893–1894 displays a “patent pending” notice; apparently the application was not approved. The Big Blue Book (c1896) claims a patent.
Even so and despite BBS’s usual reliability on patent information, no such document has been discovered in USPTO records dated 1891–1895.
Thanks to Star THP Partner Robert Donona, it will be revived for posterity in digital format.
