Lady Text designed by H. Ihlenberg for MS&J (1884)
Any info on this type design?

Attached is a 1 line specimen.

I believe Lady Text was done a long time ago, back in the 1990s. Still, the sample I saw was very poor, really just a scan-and-go. I seem to remember that Donona did Lady Text. I remember thinking I would attempt to do Lady Text as one of my more tedious projects, but I would not do it if someone else has already worked on it. Solo has a very good sample in his book, but I have become skeptical of his revivals over the last few years and would need to see a good many examples from an earlier time to check his against the originals. If I thought there were differences and that someone revived Solo’s therefore incomplete effort, I would do it. It is a very difficult face to revive, in any case.

Lady Text, I did one letter, which is the Cap A.

Yours truly,

Herman Ihlenburg designed Lady Text, presumably in 1883. He patented it in November 1883–January 1884 and assigned the rights to MacKellar, Smiths & Jordan.

His work was revived as Kelly Ann Gothic by Mike Allard/De Nada Industries in 1992.

Star THP revival developer Robert Donona observes that it may be a good candidate for color separation of the decorative elements and is considering this project.
