I’d like to work on this typeface and I have a very decent specimen from Inland Printer. I see at Flickr that you’ve posted additional specimens that are helpful. If you have high-res scans of those samples, I’d appreciate them! The patent specimens, I realize, is probably not very good, but gives an indication on how to proceed with characters that are missing in larger sizes. I will produce the face in the four sizes shown, as the ruling is different from size to size, as in Tinted, recently completed. Thanks!

LurayLike Tinted, Luray is one of four hatched block-busters patented by Charles H. Beeler and assigned to MacKellar, Smiths & Jordan in 1882–1890. His application for Luray was approved in July–August 1890 [USPTO D20103].

Sorry… I have no scans–just PDF extracts, and the hatching details are poor (dropbox folder). ’Fraid your best bet is the specimen in Annenberg’s Journey. Please don’t go blind working on this one!

I found some RGB specimens of Luray—this ver of the MSJ 1892 catalog was digitized by Microsoft and may be better quality than the usual Google ones. Check your dropbox folder!

To Mr. Alan Prescott

Another typeface gem, very nicely done, on all four sizes.

Yours truly,
Robert
